Response Codes

Every API response includes a top-level response_code000 means the transaction was successful, any other value means it failed. See Response code in the Glossary for the full list of these top-level codes.

When a transaction is declined or fails, CodePay Register may also return a more specific code and message describing what happened. Which table to check depends on which processor handled the transaction:

  • CodePay — codes returned directly by CodePay Gateway, such as signature/key errors, merchant or app configuration issues, and transaction validation.
  • Fiserv — codes returned by the Fiserv processor.
  • TSYS — codes returned by the TSYS processor.

If you're not sure which processor a merchant is on, check with the CodePay admin or your onboarding contact.
